The bishops of San Justo and Laferrere expressed the harsh reality they live daily in their neighborhoods. They speak of a "violence generated by the merchants of death." They are calling on the authorities to take action.

The bishoprics of San Justo and Gregorio de Laferrere, of the La Matanza district, expressed solidarity on Monday with the families of the five victims of the shooting in the occupied lands of González Catán and pointed out against the "organizations of evil and crime" that act "with impunity."

"We want to stand in solidarity with the families who yesterday suffered violence and today mourn the murder of their loved ones by these organizations of evil and crime that act with impunity in our neighborhoods and territories, taking advantage of the needs of the poorest and most fragile," the religious said in a statement.

In the text, the bishops affirmed that "the reality of seeking a better future has very difficult challenges" and that the most important thing is "to accompany and understand the needs that we are trying to concretize on a piece of land, in a home."

The note, signed by Monsignor Jorge Torres Carbonell, bishop of Laferrere, and Monsignor Eduardo Horacio García, of San Justo, admitted that it is a "sad moment and of great desolation" for those affected and their families, after the shooting unleashed on Sunday afternoon in a rough house in González Catán, with the result of at least five people dead.

"Likewise, together with our prayers, we make the imperative request to the authorities to establish the necessary means and that we continue to mourn the violent death of so many of our brothers," the religious statement concluded.

The bishops blamed the extreme situation of violence in the neighborhoods they walk through, generally for situations initiated by the commercialization of drugs and organized crime.

"In recent weeks, the number of deaths has increased in St. Petersburg, one of our most emblematic neighborhoods that has been saturated with the surrender of weapons, winning soldiers from robbery and trafficking," the religious denounced.

In the continuation of the story, the bishops described the harsh reality they have to face every day together with families, especially children and young people.

"Yesterday we were burying an 18-year-old who was killed on his knees. Today we are witnesses of the massacre that took place in the 8 de Diciembre neighborhood of González Catán," they described.

The versions are still not clear about the beginning of the shooting in the González Catán rough house, but the hypothesis being investigated by the prosecutor's office indicates that there was a seizure in that property and that, due to a conflict between the people who profited from the sale and the organization of the lots, the shooting was unleashed.

The result of the shooting left at least five dead and eight wounded, one seriously, in the context of a harsh reality that the bishops feel and warn about every day.
