Dozens of people, including women and children, were killed last night in intense Israeli shelling in Gaza City, Khan Yunis (in the southern sector of the Strip) and the nearby el-Bureij refugee camp. This was updated by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa. A spokesman for the Red Crescent described the situation as "catastrophic". What the agency describes as "massacres" are taking place while telephone communications in the Strip remain blocked for the fourth consecutive day, which further complicates rescue operations.
