Marni's floral collage brought to the red carpet by Simona Tabasco of The White Lotus was a hit at the Emmys, the awards equivalent to the Oscars of television: the Italian actress, who plays the part of Lucia in the HBO satirical series (in Italy on Sky), entered the top ten of the best-dressed stars of the 2024 edition: "A walking bouquet", The New York Times greeted the 'decoupage' dress chosen by Tabasco, who was photographed on the catwalk.
A lot of Italy, in homage to the Sicilian setting of the second season of the series, for the cast of The White Lotus: Jennifer Coolidge, who beat Elizabeth Debicki of The Crown as best supporting actress in a drama series, chose a black tulle Etro made of transparencies and gold printed motifs. Meghann Fahy and Beatrice Grannò opted for Armani Privé, while Sabrina Impacciatore introduced the Emmy audience to The Attico, the line created in 2016 by Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini that in September closed a street in Milan for its first fashion show.
The red carpet of the Emmys was actually gray: ideal for bringing out the red chosen by many divas, including Sarah Snook, best actress in a drama series for the last season of Succession: her dress with flounces had come out of the atelier of the late Vivienne Westwood. Suki Waterhouse's Valentino is also scarlet: Karen Sirko from the dramatic musical Daisy Jones & the Six is visibly pregnant and the Roman fashion house had to modify her dress to make room for her baby bump.
After pulling out of the race to protest gender-split awards, Yellowjackets' Liv Hewson opted for a shirtless tuxedo with train tails as the epitome of non-binary style. Matty Matheson of The Bear dressed in the name of high-low contrast: bucket sandals with white socks under a super-traditional black tuxedo suit and tie.
And also at The Bear, Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy Allen White's sous chef in the comedy series (but up to a point) that yesterday made a splash of awards, wore an inverted tulip dress by Louis Vuitton that, 3D printed on a leather-like material, transformed the classic strapless 'little black dress' into something much more interesting.
