For the apple filling:

  • 3 large apples
  • 350 g applesauce
  • 1/2 packet custard powder (vanilla flavor)
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • A little lemon juice

For the cinnamon crumble:

  • 250 g spelt flour
  • 150 g sugar
  • 150 g margarine
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

That's how easy it is to bake the apple crumble cake purely plant-based

  • First, knead the flour with the margarine, powdered sugar and a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl. Grease a springform pan with a little margarine or neutral oil and then press the dough into a base with a rim about three centimeters high. Place the springform pan covered with foil in the fridge and let it rest there.
  • While the oven preheats to 200 degrees top and bottom heat, peel the apples and cut them into small cubes. Add the applesauce to a large mixing bowl with the vanilla sugar, pudding powder and a dash of lemon juice. Mix everything until smooth and then fold in the apple cubes.
  • The next step is to take the springform pan out of the fridge and fill it with the apple mixture. Now knead the spelt flour with the sugar, margarine and cinnamon and crumble evenly over the apple filling. Bake the apple pie for about 45 to 50 minutes in the bottom third of the preheated oven until golden. Remove from the oven, allow to cool completely and carefully remove from the tin. Optionally, sprinkle with a little powdered sugar. Enjoy your meal!
  • The purely plant-based apple pie can be enjoyed wonderfully with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream. For all non-vegans, a dollop of whipped cream is also recommended.
