The last moments of 30-year-old Kyler Efinger's life were recorded by CCTV cameras at Salt Lake City International Airport. The young man, who had just missed his flight to visit his ailing grandfather in Denver, tried by all means to reach the airport tarmac. Videos show him trying to open several closed doors to the departure lounge. Kyler, wearing a t-shirt and taking off his shoes, finally managed to get through an emergency exit, before making his way to the tarmac. He is then seen running towards a plane. The video stops just before he climbs into the engine of a running Airbus A220, in which he was found dead by police, minutes later.

It is unclear why the young man did this. His family suggested that he was suffering from a mental illness. "He was held up by airport security, he missed his flight... This is called the manic phase. These phases don't end well for him. Obviously, this time it's the worst of all," his father said.
