Puppy yoga as a wellness trend from the USA has also arrived in Germany. Yoga with furballs takes away all worries, as long as animal welfare is taken into account.

While the participants of Puppy Yoga practice their exercises such as the "Downward Facing Dog" or the "Tree", little puppies swagger between their legs. Puppy Yoga – to German yoga with puppies – is extremely cute to watch. Depending on the course, small beagle, golden retriever or poodle puppies flit around the participants. They stop at nothing: legs are climbed, notes from the trainer are subjected to a taste test or headphone cables are misused as rope.

For ambitious yoga apprentices who want to optimize their yoga practice, Puppy Yoga is therefore rather not suitable. Too often, the little balls of fur distract from the sport. But one health advantage makes up for this: the cute four-legged friends provide relaxation and joy among the course participants. The puppies also increase the entertainment value of a class enormously.

Participants must be informed how to handle the puppies

Basically, there is nothing wrong with this special exchange between humans and dogs – as long as all regulations are complied with for the benefit of both parties. Puppy Yoga classes are now offered in many larger cities in Germany.

Fresh air and enough space for each participant should be standard. In addition, participants must be informed about how best to behave with the puppies. As part of the Puppy Yoga classes, for example, it is important that the puppies feel safe. This is not taken into account, for example, when the little ones are taken out of their baskets by the participants, even though they are dozing.

Puppy Yoga: How can you tell that animal welfare is being taken care of?

Only take part in Yoga Puppy classes if the organizer adheres to the following rules:

  • Bonnie the calf escapes from the butcher: she finds a new family in the woods.

  • Crows thank you with gifts – because the woman feeds them every dayread

  • Cat meows at night: is it due to hunger, thirst or boredom?read

  • Golden Retriever behaves like "little brother" and plans ingenious prank reading

  • "As sweet as it rejoices": Albert the camel sees snow reading for the first time

  • The puppies come exclusively from certified and professional dog breeders – preferably from the region.
  • The provider ensures that the dogs are already used to contact with humans and are already familiar with different environments.
  • The teachers make sure that the dogs are treated with empathy and make sure that the course participants respect the comfort zone of the dogs.
  • The provider ensures that the puppies have adequate rest periods during and between yoga classes. It is best to set up a protected space in the room where the little ones can retreat.
  • The organizer ensures that only healthy and vaccinated puppies participate.
  • In the best case, the mother of the puppies is there.

On site, there are a number of signs that should make you suspicious. Are the puppies still very young? Is the yoga room dirty? Do the dogs look anxious or sick? If so, you should not attend the course. Because these signs suggest that the needs of the puppies are not the first priority. In such a case, talk to the organizer and report them to the veterinary office or the police in the event of animal welfare violations.
