The Commission allocates 46.7 million euros for farmers affected by avian flu epidemics in Italy.
He announced it in a note.
Between January 1st and April 30th 2022, he recalls, Italy had to deal with 23 confirmed outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype.
In response, Italy quickly implemented strict animal health measures, resulting in production losses in the affected regions, particularly for eggs and meat.
Following Italy's official request, the European Commission decided to allocate 46,670,790 euros from the agricultural reserve, covering 50% of Italian spending to help seriously affected farmers.
Payments co-financed by the agricultural reserve must be made by 30 September 2024. The support is reserved for agricultural companies located in restricted areas affected by the 23 epidemics.
To avoid double financing by public funds, it is specified, the losses suffered must not be compensated by state aid or insurance.
