You can only see Damien Hirst's diamond skull at the MUCA Munich until January 28, 2024.

The rest of the show, which is worth seeing, runs until autumn.

You can't grasp it.

And I don't want to believe it.

Three months already gone?

Fact: At the end of October 2023, the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) in Munich opened its large Damien Hirst exhibition.

(Read the exhibition review of the Damien Hirst show at the MUCA Munich here.)

Now the most spectacular piece of it - the platinum cast of a human skull set with 8,601 diamonds - is being dismantled again as announced.

And even though you knew that, you still didn't manage to get there in time?

It doesn't matter, the skull is still there, sparkling, for nine days in the MUCA bunker, secured behind bulletproof glass.

Only four people are allowed to dive into the dark room at the same time and marvel at the extravagant work.

So don't hesitate to visit again, but rather go straight to the museum's homepage - because apart from a few time slots, the visitor slots are already pretty much full, as Stephanie Utz from MUCA Munich tells us when asked.

“But of course we try to accommodate every interested guest somehow.”

She and her team are delighted with the large turnout.

The show - Hirst's first retrospective of his work from 40 years in Germany - brings them record numbers.

“In the first three months there were already more than 30,000 visitors.” If you don’t manage to see the diamond skull by January 28, 2024, you don’t need to worry.

The rest of the exhibition with the entire diversity of Hirst's entire oeuvre can be experienced at the MUCA until autumn 2024.

From his provocative sculptures of dead animals preserved in formaldehyde to dreamy cherry blossom paintings.

“And in the MUCA Bunker, the diamond skull will be followed by other beautiful works by Damien Hirst,” reveals Utz.

Sparkling prospects.
