Multiple sockets are practical.
But if the wrong devices are plugged into it or the plug is placed incorrectly, a fire can occur.
The number of electronic household appliances in most households is constantly increasing, and digitalization is coming.
That's why it's all the more practical if several devices can be connected to the power grid at the same time using a multiple plug.
However, you should not randomly plug in any devices - some of which turn out to be real power guzzlers - as this could have dangerous consequences.
The decisive factor is the electrical performance of the devices.
Multiple sockets are usually designed for an output of between 3,000 and 3,500 watts.
Of course, this value should not be exceeded.
If you plug devices that exceed this value into it, an overload can occur, which will heat up the multiple plug and could lead to a fire.
The
Ministry of the Interior for municipalities in Baden-Württemberg
therefore warns: “Fan heaters, washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers or household grills do not belong on multiple sockets!”
Televisions and PCs can usually be connected to multiple sockets
Before connecting an electrical device, always check the watt value, which is usually located on the back of the device.
Normally, however, devices such as PCs, laptops, televisions and DVD devices can be connected without any problems.
However, make sure that the total value of the devices connected does not exceed the performance of the multiple plug.
Anyone who comes up with the idea of simply connecting one multiple socket to the other is making a mistake.
This is because the power consumption is by no means distributed across both plugs.
Instead, it only collects on the first plug, which can quickly overheat.
That's why the fire prevention advisory center
warns
: "Under no circumstances should you plug several multiple sockets into one another!"
