Through maps, calendars, chronicles and encyclopedias other than those of the West, the Mucem decenters the visitor's gaze. Not without provocation.

Vast, complex and determining questions that are currently being clarified, at the Mucem, by a choice of 150 maps and calendars, the most diverse works coming from five continents.

And again, for societies that have left hardly any material traces, sound extracts, songs or tales of griots vectors of sub-Saharan, Amazonian, Mongolian or even Kanak historicities...

Between ancient outlines of regions and shores, the oldest dating back to the 13th century, and creations by contemporary artists calling into question the drawing of the planet standardized in the 19th century - with north at the top, south at the bottom and Europe in the center, (see the giant self-portrait of the Congolese Chéri Samba against the background of an inverted world map) - the anthropological artifacts are astonishing.
