Rose Villain is one of the revelation names of 2023. The release of her first album Radio Gotham (gold certified), the summer hit Fragole with Achille Lauro, the new single Io, me ed altri guai, her first live show: a culminating a rich and satisfying year for her, she is now ready to (re)go on stage at the Ariston - where last year she was a guest of Rosa Chemical on the covers evening - competing at the Sanremo festival with the song Click Boom!
"I like to think that this is a debut, I have a song that represents me 100% and I'm enthusiastic. I wish February 6th were tomorrow, the wait disturbs me, but I'm calm even if everyone around me is agitated. the only thing that worries me is tiredness, but I have a crazy desire to make myself known to those who don't know who I am", he says, because there is a risk that out of the 30 artists competing, someone might go unnoticed.
"But it won't be me. They will notice me - says the 34-year-old Milanese, self-confident - because my way of making music is not to stay between the lines, I'm not canonical. And it's also fine if I'm not understood at first I listen, because in what I sing there is a dualism, between urban and pop, between nostalgia and strength. Not everyone will like me, but I want to get to the heart and create as many connections as possible with the audience, so that they can see a little of sparkle of my art. An artist exists when there is someone who listens to him."
Women - always too few - have never had an easy life in Sanremo, and the last victory by a singer dates back to ten years ago, with Arisa in 2014. "Being a woman can make the difference. It's clear that something isn't working there is. I would really like one of us to win again, and I'm curious to hear the pieces of Fiorella Mannoia and Loredana Bertè. In the meantime I'm applying", she says, laughing and following the advice of her friend Achille Lauro, who that stage she frequented him a lot: "simply be yourself, you won't make mistakes".
From him also a lucky charm given to her by Beppe Vessicchio (but it will be directed by Davide Rossi): "a brooch with a blue mini bow tie, I will take it with me".
Who knows if it's worth points at Fantasanremo... "I'm ready for that too: I'll do everything possible without humiliating myself, like being dignifiedly tipsy as last year's regulations stated."
Meanwhile, she is also ready to release her new album which will be released - not surprisingly - on March 8th, International Women's Day.
"After having explored my darkest part with Radio Gotham, I now feel like I'm in a period of bloom, as if I were a rose in bloom, and therefore it's called Radio Sakura, like the cherry blossoms in Japan. A record in which I put myself bare, I remove frills and darkness and which reflects this sweetly raw phase. What softened me was the love of the public who welcomed the first album. And this is the best music I've made so far".
The experience he had living in Los Angeles and New York also influenced his work.
"There are many talented artists there and we reward those who are different, those who dare but with very high quality. I brought this with me, together with the idea of always throwing myself into it."
Rose Villain has already announced 4 live shows in clubs for October 2024 in Florence, Padua, Naples, Milan.
She will also be among the judges of the Netflix program "Nuova Scena-Rhythm + Flow Italia", with Fabri Fibra and Geolier, to search for the protagonists who will mark the new Italian rap scene.
