Scraping ice off your car can be a real time-waster in the morning.

But it can also be done quickly and without an ice scraper.

A home remedy helps against icy windows.

Munich – Winter in Germany is back with snowstorms and freezing rain and with it the scraping of ice on the car again.

Despite the “great danger” with which the weather service issues its warning in numerous regions, many employees will probably have to use their cars again to get to work.

The temperatures in the morning can cause the windows to ice up again, making the use of an ice scraper unavoidable.

Scraping ice on the car without an ice scraper: A home remedy works wonders for icy car windows

While the DWD red alert “with danger to life and limb” prevails in large parts of Germany and all of Bavaria, time is often short, especially in the morning.

Then scraping ice on the car is particularly stressful, especially if there are not numerous school cancellations like in Bavaria.

But fortunately, a home remedy can help with icy windows, which can work wonders even without an ice scraper.

One method is to spread a salt water solution on the car windows with a sponge in the evening.

If it doesn't get too cold at night, the salt water will make it easier to de-ice the windshield the next morning.

In winter temperatures, scraping ice from icy car windows can become a real pain.

However, home remedies and other tricks can provide some relief.

To keep the car window free of ice at even lower temperatures, a de-icer spray is also a preventative measure.

This is also very easy to make in your own home using home remedies.

To do this, pour vinegar and water into a spray bottle in a ratio of 3:1 (three parts vinegar, one part water).

If the home remedy is sprayed on the car windows before the night, the windows remain ice-free in moderately sub-zero temperatures.

The trick behind it: The vinegar-water mixture has a lower freezing temperature than water.

Another trick for scraping ice on your car: warm water can also help with icy windows

You can also simply spray the mixture onto the icy areas and the frost will disappear in a few seconds.

The situation is similar with another trick that can help when scraping ice on your car in the morning: warm water.

However, this requires a well-sealable freezer bag into which the hot, but by no means boiling, water is filled.

Then slowly wipe the bag over the car window and watch as the ice melts under the heat.

Be careful with the water method in winter: temperature differences can damage windows

Nevertheless, caution applies.

The trick with warm water when scraping ice on the car only works with the bag.

Without this, the frost problem could quickly lead to damage.

Under no circumstances should you simply pour boiling water over the icy windows.

The ADAC also warns about this as well as a trick for frozen windshield wipers.

  • No more scraping ice on your car: Home remedies clear icy windows in seconds

Although it sounds logical to combat ice with heat, the boiling water method is too extreme.

The large temperature differences can cause cracks or, in the worst case scenario, the car windows can even shatter completely.

Even lukewarm water could have the same effect.

Scraping ice on the car is mandatory: a small peephole is not enough - there is a risk of a fine

Due to a lack of time in the morning, some drivers are content with just scratching out a small peephole.

But that's not enough.

Anyone who does this will face a fine of ten euros.

The view should also be clear on the remaining panes.

If this is not the case, the risk of an accident increases.

It is also not allowed to warm up the engine instead of scraping ice.

Allowing the engine to warm up while stationary damages the environment, makes unnecessary noise and is therefore prohibited according to Section 30 Paragraph 1 of the StVO.

It threatens

Fine of up to 80 euros plus administrative costs.

With these prospects, you should probably plan the appropriate amount of time in the morning to scrape ice on the car, whether with home remedies or without.
