A 5-year-old boy swallowed a coin that got stuck near the trachea and thanks to the doctor's diagnosis, his life was saved.
The doctor who examined the child in the emergency department of the United Medical Center immediately noticed that he was not well, took him for an urgent X-ray and when he realized that the coin was close to the trachea, he asked to prevent the child from moving so that it would not block his airway until the evacuation to the hospital was completed.

A family from the north who stayed at the weekend in Jerusalem, will not forget their last visit to the capital.
On Saturday evening, their 5-year-old son swallowed a coin, did not tell his parents about it and was attacked by a strong cough and vomiting throughout the night.
The worried parents, who realized that something was not right, arrived in the morning with their son for diagnosis and medical treatment.

They were greeted by Dr. Odeh Alam, a doctor in the emergency medicine system of the "United" hospital, who examined the boy who continued to cough violently and release large amounts of saliva: "I noticed that he was not well and immediately took him for an X-ray," described Dr. Alam. "In the photo we clearly saw that he swallowed a five shekel coin, which got stuck very close to the trachea with a real fear of suffocation. I asked to prevent any movement of the child that could lead to blocking his airways until he was evacuated to the hospital."
An intensive care unit was called to the scene and at the same time the director of the hospital, Dana Bar-On, updated the emergency room in Hadassah about the child's complex condition. He was quickly transferred to Hadassah where the coin was removed successfully and without injury.
Dr. Alam added: "The child had a great miracle.
His life was in real danger when his every movement, especially during sleep at night, could move the coin into the windpipe and cause respiratory obstruction.
We urge parents to keep away from their children as many objects as possible that may be dangerous for them, and as soon as unusual symptoms and extreme changes in the children's behavior are noticed, to immediately seek medical attention.
It saves lives."
S.G., the father of the family: "We feel that we received our child's life as a gift. When we arrived at the clinic we were in a sense of misunderstanding and confusion regarding our child's condition. Dr. Alam showed great resourcefulness and quickly diagnosed the child and realized that his life was in danger.
He took care of him and mostly calmed us down so we wouldn't stress our son.
We thank the medical teams of Mohedat and Hadassah for the professional and quick treatment and are very happy that everything ended safely."
