Canal + is broadcasting from this Monday January 22 the second part of Xavier Giannoli's fantastic series on the car tax scandal

You've been waiting impatiently for them, the last six episodes of the masterful series “D'argent et de sang”, by Xavier Giannoli, are finally here.

Between thriller and investigation, this fiction adapted from the eponymous investigation book by Mediapart journalist Fabrice Arfi (2018, 256 p., Éd. Seuil), plunges us into one of the biggest financial scams of the century, the tax scam carbon, which shook the political and economic world for more than fifteen years, and cost the French state more than 1.6 billion euros.

In 12 episodes of 52 minutes, including two new ones broadcast from this Monday January 22 on Canal +, the director dissects this crazy affair without ever losing the rhythm or the viewer.

A heist of the century carried out under the noses of the French elite by two little thugs from Belleville and a brat from the chic 16th arrondissement of Paris married to the daughter of a billionaire.

A tricky subject as the world of finance is complex, but one that the brilliant director of “Lost Illusions” does wonderfully.

No missteps.

He succeeds in making it an educational fiction which exposes the financialization of the world, and denounces mad money.

Impossible not to watch the next episode

By the end of the sixth episode, the three thugs had managed to avoid imprisonment.

In charge of the investigation, Vincent Lindon, extraordinary in the role of the obsessive magistrate, had adopted the strategy of pushing them into error by pitting them against each other, playing on their jealousy.

His objective, to isolate the “bad boy” Jérôme Attias (fantastic Niels Schneider), from his two Tunisian friends, Bouli (David Ayala) and Fitous (Ramzy Bedia), by playing on his paranoia and putting it in his head that he had earned much less than the others…

We find them dripping with vulgarity in their new life as billionaires, but the hunt continues.

The character played by Vincent Lindon doesn't give up, and it's always impossible not to press "next" at the end of an episode.

In this game of cat and mouse hiding in this maze of company screens where the stolen money has been placed, we are in apnea.

Terrifying and exciting.

The second part of the series is as powerful as the first, carried by actors who are still excellent, and in particular Judith Chemla, very convincing in the role of the woman bruised and betrayed by her husband, played by Niels Schneider.

“Money and the need for money”

During the presentation of the first episodes to the press, Xavier Giannoli made a point of recalling that the market for pollution rights, and the taxes that go with it, had been created as “a sort of eco-friendly Nasdaq with the noble ambition of fighting against global warming ".

This was without taking into account the greed of crooks who don't really care about the state of the planet...

Quoting a prosecutor during the thugs' trial, he also said that the carbon market emerged "at a time when the political economy no longer produced anything other than money and the need for money."

“Of Money and Blood”, a masterful human and ecological tragedy, as fascinating as it is disturbing, that cannot be missed.
