News items and Netflix, a great love story.

Arriving on the streaming platform on Thursday, the documentary series “The Kidnapped Truth: From Dream to American Nightmare” directly established itself as the most viewed content, ahead of “Double Trap”, a series adapted from a novel by Harlan Coben.

Because it must be said that this new case, treated in three episodes of approximately 45 minutes each, has all the makings of a good thriller: a couple without history, an average Californian town, and police officers who are perhaps a little too cinema-loving and not serious enough.

A succession of events, each more improbable than the other

The case in question is that of the disappearance of Denise Huskins, in March 2015. Her companion, Aaron Quinn, waited until the next day to report her to the authorities, who then immediately doubted her testimony.

He explains that he was tied up by the kidnapper, but the investigators don't care.

They immediately discover that the couple is experiencing some turmoil, with Aaron being accused of cheating on his partner.

To everyone's surprise, 48 hours later, and while a ransom is demanded, Denise is released.

She says she was kidnapped and raped.

Except that on the police side, no one believes her.

In question: the film “Gone Girl” by David Fincher, adapted from a novel by Gillian Flynn and released the previous year, with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, in which a woman fakes her own assassination and does everything so that her husband , whom she accuses of infidelity, is incriminated.

In the real world, then follows a succession of events, each more improbable than the last, between incriminating investigations and emails from the kidnapper claiming responsibility for his act... and threatening other kidnappings if the police do not present not their apologies to the victim!

The director of “The Tinder Scammer”

This incredible affair is very well staged on screen, notably by the director of the fantastic “Tinder Scam”, all in three chapters.

First, the first moments of the story, where everything revolves around Aaron Quinn.

Then, in the second episode, it's time for his companion, recounting in detail his kidnapping and the investigation.

But everything changes during the last segment, allowing us to shed light on this news story unlike any other.

All with numerous videos from the auditions of each part.

And if Netflix is used to offering this style of documentary, sometimes with more spectacular offerings, “The Kidnapped Truth” will be devoured with pleasure for fans of the genre.
