"I am at the side of all administrations to secure the difficult areas of the city, but I will not be part of an anti-car party because citizens go to work there".
The deputy prime minister and minister, Matteo Salvini, said this on the sidelines of an event in Florence, speaking about the controversy over the 30 km/h speed limit in Bologna.
Salvini said he was against the idea of "blocking an entire city with fines and limitations", but agreed to "do some experiments on some dangerous streets".
"It's worth doing experiments on some streets - he specified - but fining those who go to work by car, even by bike, seems like an ideology devoid of any sense to me. I hope the mayor wants to think about it, because I don't want to argue with anyone, but I have duty to protect the mobility of those who take the car to go to work".
