It is necessary to educate the values of peace from an early age, because today's children will be tomorrow's adults, those who will guide future generations.
This is the topic that the pediatricians of Fimp, the Italian Federation of Pediatricians, focus on.
"The ongoing conflicts, the well-known ones that the media talk about every day but also the forgotten or even ignored ones that continue to fight in many areas of the planet, represent for children and young people all over the world a real denial of childhood and of adolescence - underlines Antonio D'Avino, Fimp president in a note - These are brutal and unacceptable acts of violence which dramatically affect those who are most defenseless and which for this reason we must not stop condemning".
For Fimp paediatricians, children, young people and the elderly are "the main victims of atrocious wars which lead the affected populations to live in inhuman conditions, causing indelible suffering in the little ones and depriving them of those essential aspects for healthy growth: home, school , stability, affection and hope for the future".
"As family paediatricians - concludes D'Avino - we would like to reiterate that the right to childhood and adolescence is recognized at an international level and as such must be guaranteed and protected. Furthermore, we wish to draw attention to the importance of educating children values of peace from a very young age, because today's children will be tomorrow's adults, those who will guide future generations. We are convinced that peace education must be an integral part of our children's growth path, to convey a vision of life founded on respect for others, solidarity, dialogue and justice as indispensable universal values to be learned from childhood and to be preserved throughout one's life".
