Sarah Ferguson
, Duchess of York , has returned to the United Kingdom after a few days of treatment and a period of "rest in Austria"
, struggling with her second cancer diagnosis in six months, as announced yesterday by sources close to the British court.
The BBC, among others, reports it today, reiterating that the ex-wife of Prince
Andrew
- brother of King Charles and third son of Queen
Elizabeth
, who ended up in disgrace for his suspected involvement in the Epstein sex scandal - remains in good spirits, trusting that the disease may have been identified at an early stage.
Fergie, as she was familiarly nicknamed in her youth by the tabloids, is now 64 years old.
Six months ago she underwent a mastectomy due to breast cancer.
More recently, the dermatologist ordered the removal of several of her moles to be checked as a precaution before undergoing breast reconstructive surgery.
And one of these moles turned out to be a malignant melanoma of the skin, as made public yesterday in what was the third announcement in a few days of health problems concerning members or former members of the British royal family: after the one on the delicate "all "abdomen" suffered last week by the Princess of Wales,
Kate
, 42 years old, wife of the heir to the throne
William
;
and the one on the operation for which the 75-year-old King
Charles
himself is now expected, for a prostate condition defined as "benign".
Divorced for many years from Andrea, with whom she had two daughters, Princesses
Beatrice
and
Eugenie
, Sarah Ferguson then reconnected with her ex-husband, with whom she shares a residence near Windsor.
Although she is no longer a member of the Royal Family in the strict sense - and for example was not invited to the coronation of Charles and
Camilla
after the death of Queen Elizabeth - she retains the honorary title of Duchess of York;
and last December 25th she was seen again at the royal Christmas mass for the first time in three decades.
