2024-01-23T07:47:31.387Z

Highlights: Life Accident Guarantee (GAV) insurance is used to cover you and your family. It compensates you for the consequences, sometimes serious, of a simple fall on your stairs or a stepladder. Subscribing to a GAV contract, unlike other tenant civil liability guarantees, is not obligatory but recommended. Self-aggressive acts, suicide and attempts, the consequences of acts under the influence of toxic substances are excluded from the GAV. All extreme or high-risk sports such as aerial sports, combat sports, motor sports, etc., for which special insurance should be taken out.

Domestic accidents are not uncommon and it is better to be insured with life accident insurance to avoid paying too much.

In the event of an everyday accident at home or during your leisure time, fall, burn, poisoning, Life Accident Guarantee (GAV) insurance is used to cover you and your family.

It compensates you for the consequences, sometimes serious, of a simple fall on your stairs or a stepladder and other accidents of daily life.

Falls are one of the accidents covered by GAV

Subscribing to a life accident guarantee contract, GAV, allows you, in the event of an accident in your private life, compensation for bodily injury or even death.

These very frequent accidents can have very serious consequences impacting private and professional life and leading to temporary incapacity and permanent disability.

If health and hospitalization costs are covered by Social Security and your complementary health insurance, only the personal accident guarantee allows you compensation up to the damage suffered, to deal with the consequences of the accident.

The GAV insurance contract covers accidents:

  • domestic such as falls, poisoning, cuts, burns,

  • occurring during leisure activities, during walks, while practicing non-dangerous sports,

  • caused by natural or technological disasters,

  • medical, during examinations or surgical procedures,

  • and the physical or psychological consequences of attacks or attacks.

This insurance allows you to be covered in the absence of liability of a third party or when you yourself are the cause of the damage.

Subscribing to a GAV contract, unlike other tenant civil liability guarantees for example, is not obligatory but recommended.

What steps should you take with your insurance in the event of a fall?

In the event of an accidental fall at your home, after receiving first medical treatment, you must file a personal accident report with your insurer.

You must attach to your declaration information relating to the consequences of the accident:

  • hospitalization certificate, medical expenses, invoices for additional costs such as child and pet care costs, personal services for home help, etc.

  • the assessment of the damage may be entrusted by the insurer to an expert doctor for the purposes of determining the level of incapacity or invalidity.

What is the insurance compensation in the event of a fall at home?

The compensation provided by life accident insurance is determined on the basis of the expertise and is paid in addition to social security and supplementary health benefits.

Compensation for bodily and psychological damage, generally provided for by GAV contracts, generally occurs when the insured, who is seriously affected, suffers an incapacity of at least 30%.

To benefit from a more protective guarantee, you should take out a GAV contract providing compensation for less serious bodily injury with a disability of 10%, or even 5%.

Please note that certified life accident insurance offers a compensation limit of at least one million euros.

What does life accident insurance not cover?

Your GAV contract provides for warranty exclusions:

  • Self-aggressive acts, suicide and attempts, the consequences of acts under the influence of toxic substances are excluded from the GAV.

  • All extreme or high-risk sports such as aerial sports, combat sports, motor sports, etc., for which special insurance should be taken out, individually or as part of a club practice.

Your age, if you are over 65, is considered a risk factor generally leading to a reduction in guarantees.
