The 49 euro ticket is a hit.
But it was not clear for a long time whether the Germany ticket would continue to be so cheap.
The federal and state governments have now reached an agreement.
Frankfurt – Anyone who frequently uses local public transport will probably find it difficult to avoid the Deutschlandticket.
Given the affordable price of currently 49 euros, the monthly pass is very popular with more than ten million users - even if it only allows you to use ICE trains in exceptional cases.
For a long time, however, it was unclear whether the Deutschlandticket would continue to be available for less than 50 euros per month.
Now the transport ministers of the federal states have fixed the price for 2024.
Germany ticket: You pay this price in 2024
Further financing of the Deutschlandticket was in limbo for a long time.
The income from the sale of the subscription could not cover the costs of the Deutschlandticket and left a financing gap of around three billion euros in 2023 alone.
Half of these were funded by the federal government and half by the states.
However, both sides have not been able to agree on financing from May 2024 – until now.
The transport ministers of the federal states decided in a special conference on Monday (January 22nd) that the price of 49 euros per month for the Germany ticket should remain stable throughout 2024.
North Rhine-Westphalia's Transport Minister Oliver Krischer described the price stability for the Deutschlandticket for 2024 as good news.
However , the Green politician
also said on
WDR 5 's "Morgenecho" on Tuesday: "I wouldn't make a forecast for the next few years."
There was talk of a price increase for Deutschlandticket
A price increase for the Deutschlandsticket was discussed for a long time in the negotiations between the federal and state governments.

Previously, the Germany ticket was even in jeopardy because districts such as Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt had threatened to withdraw from the ticket for cost reasons.
The price for the Germany ticket is not expected to increase this year.
