If detected early, the chances of curing cancer are often good - including blood cancer.
Initial signs may seem harmless, but they should be taken seriously.
Leukemia, also known as blood cancer, is a life-threatening disease of the blood-forming system.
Diseased white blood cells, so-called leukemia cells, are formed, which displace healthy blood cells as the disease progresses.
This impaired blood formation results in a deficiency of red blood cells, platelets and white blood cells.
The three blood components have vital functions, such as transporting oxygen in the body.
If leukemia progresses untreated or if no treatment is effective, the cancer can lead to death.
As the German Cancer Research Center further informs, it is not possible to answer why leukemia develops in most patients.
Only a few risk factors have been proven.
These include certain chemicals such as benzene, previous chemotherapy or high doses of radioactive radiation.
Recognizing leukemia: Symptoms that should be clarified medically
Early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of survival.
If you have persistent, unexplained symptoms, you should seek medical advice.
Specific blood tests and bone marrow examinations are used in leukemia diagnostics.
A distinction is made between acute and chronic leukemia.
Anyone who is constantly sick and tired should see a doctor.

The chronic form is usually discovered accidentally during a blood test because those affected do not show any symptoms for a long time.
Acute leukemia breaks out suddenly.
As the German Cancer Society informs, the following symptoms can be signs of leukemia:
Noticeably pale skin
Loss of appetite and associated weight loss
Swollen lymph nodes, such as those in the neck
Increased susceptibility to infections
dizziness
Tendency to bleed, e.g. in the form of nose or gum bleeds and bruises
Bleeding that is difficult to stop or tiny dot-like bleeding, especially on the arms and legs
Anemia (anemia) and, as a result, loss of performance, tiredness and fatigue
Bone pain
Severe feeling of illness with fever, often accompanied by a stubborn infection
