The most trite joke on American television is the one that compares an impossible situation to the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian issue.
I can't even count the number of times I've come across such jokes in series and movies.
Americans have long since given up understanding the conflict, but they still pretend to care.
Now we are in the headlines, and our war has reached "law and order".
In the episode that opened season 23 (available from today, Tuesday, on yes and HOT VOD), the popular police-legal drama describes a murder case with a direct connection to the conflict between the parties.
In the story there is a Jewish lecturer who refuses to condemn the events of October 7, students who praise the courage of Hamas terrorists, and a fight for the right to freedom of speech.
Asking questions that have no answers.

The episode asks questions that have no answers regarding the conflict, hate speech and freedom of speech, but the engagement with them is superficial and basic to the level of "all pro-Palestinians are anti-Semitic, support terrorism, who are fighting a Jewish elite, and the Jews are merely anxious people, but vengeful and murderous."
The most basic, politically correct and American cliché.
"Law and order" has been doing what it has been doing for more than 30 years.
Half investigation episode, half court episode.
Even after the verdict and the conviction of the murderer, it is implied that the episode ends without a shred of optimism and with too many bodies of people who paid with their lives without real justice being achieved, nor order.
Well, it really is an awful lot like our war.
