The son of Monica Aldema, the star of the Netflix series "Cheer Up", is accused of pedophilia.
27-year-old William Austin Aldema, who appeared only briefly in the Netflix documentary series, which follows Monica and the cheerleading team she coaches, is facing ten counts of possession of pedophilic material.
According to TMZ Austin has been released on bail and will stand trial.
While prosecutors say they have evidence against him, including videos and files that include images of children under the age of 10 engaging in sexual acts.
According to overseas reports, Austin Aldama's lawyers, Heather Barbieri and Kerry Donica, maintain that he is innocent.
"In response to the recent media criticism surrounding our client, Austin Aldema, we want to straighten the line. The attention to this case is only because his mother is considered a celebrity. This is an attempt to distort the truth," they said in a statement to the media.
"Austin is innocent. The charges against him are not legally valid and we are confident that the facts will prove his innocence and will become clear during the legal process."
"Cheer" was a Netflix documentary miniseries that ran for two seasons and was about Monica Aldema who coaches a competitive Navarro College cheerleading squad in the United States.
Austin Aldama appeared in two episodes as himself during the show's run.
It's hard to believe, but this isn't the first time someone from the show has been accused of pedophilia. In 2022, a federal judge sentenced 24-year-old Jerry Harris to 12 years in prison for forcing teenage boys to send him sexually explicit photos and videos.
He was also convicted of soliciting sex from minors in competitions with the intent to engage in illegal sexual behavior.
After this incident, Monica said in an interview that she was "heartbroken, especially as a mother. As a parent, my heart breaks for those who were hurt."
As for the allegations against her son, Monica has yet to make a statement.
