The Housing Cabinet announced today (Wednesday) the urban renewal plan in downtown Ashkelon, between Histadrut and Ben Gurion streets, as a preferred area for housing - which is expected to launch the huge plan initiated by the Israel Land Authority, which includes the evacuation of 359 apartments in 14 old buildings in order to establish A new residential complex of about 2,530 new apartments on an area of about 75 dunams.
The complex, which covers about 75 dunams, is located in the Shimshon neighborhood, which is the heart of the urban fabric of Ashkelon, south of and along Ben Gurion - the main avenue in the city that connects the entrance to the city from Route 4 to the beach, between Bialik streets in the east and Ben Gurion in the west, to the north of the complex is the city hall , the courthouse and the central station and to the west of it the 'Barzilai' hospital.
The old buildings are currently without protection and in a poor state of maintenance.
The planning of the new complex that will be built in its place offers renewal and upgrading of the complex while emphasizing connectivity and creating new connections to the rest of the city, as well as connecting existing infrastructures and renewing them.

Einav Ringler, Director of the Senior Division for Planning and Projects at the Israel Land Authority, welcomed the decision of the Ministerial Committee and noted that "the announcement of the Rami Complex for Urban Renewal in Ashkelon as a complex for fast-track promotion is of the utmost importance for the benefit of strengthening the city and its residents, especially in this period.
" In the heart of the city in a strategic location in close proximity to essential civic centers while making efficient use of the land, including approximately 2,350 units in diverse housing mixes and shielding what is lacking in the current neighborhood. The plan will renew the built structure and help the development and growth of the city of Ashkelon. This plan is a direct continuation of the significant development of Ram in the city and it is the product of blessed collaborations with the mayor and the representatives of the municipality".
The project management is carried out by a professional team led by Moshe Cohen from the office "Keshet M.K. Kolker Epstein".
