The invitation to the police commissioners to evaluate the adoption of provisions which provide for the postponement to another date of the demonstrations in favor of Palestine scheduled for next Saturday, "thus guaranteeing the freedom of demonstration which, in the present case, must be reconciled with the value attributed to the Day of Remembrance" , is contained in a circular signed by the Chief of Police, Vittorio Pisani.
These initiatives, in conjunction with those for Remembrance Day, the circular points out, "could take on connotations that are detrimental, from a formal organizational and content perspective, to the national value that the Italian Republic has attributed to the commemorative spirit in favor of the victims of the racial laws, as well as condemning persecution of the Jewish people".
And, in any case, he continues, regarding the commemoration events, "suitable prevention and security measures must be put in place, taking into consideration the continuing terrorist threat, providing for the implementation of public order devices adequate to deal with any actions promoted in violation of the measures adopted, as well as the strengthening of the supervisory measures of objectives and sites of any nature deemed potentially exposed to risk".
