Guaranteed quality food and wine are becoming increasingly relevant to the Sardinian and Italian economy.

This was highlighted by Ismea's "Wine Trends" report published in January 2024 which showed how DOC and DOCG wines had an exceptional profitability performance in 2023, with results worth 11.3 billion euros in Italy , up 4.6 percent, and 150 million euros in Sardinia, an increase of 11 percent.

At the top of the ranking stands Vermentino di Gallura, the only Sardinian DOCG, which has recorded a significant increase in value, reaching 215 euros per hectolitre, with an increase of 2.6 percent compared to the previous year and surpassing the highly rated Prosecco , which stopped at 205 euros.

This data reflects the quality and prestige of Vermentino di Gallura and its growing appreciation at an international level, consolidating its position as a wine of excellence.

It was in fact the best-selling wine in summer 2023, appreciated by tourists on the island and in particular by American tourists on the Costa Smeralda.

Cannonau di Sardegna, the island's typical red wine, also recorded a value of 159.2 euros per hectolitre, with a decrease of 6.9 percent compared to the previous year.

Vermentino di Sardegna, on the other hand, suffered a steeper decline of 14.75 percent to 138.1 euros per hectolitre, reflecting the challenges and opportunities in the wine market.

The data was reprocessed by the Study and Communication Center of Cipnes Gallura, an industrial consortium based in Olbia which is committed to supporting wine producers and promoting those of Sardinia also through the regional marketing plan "Insula Sardina Quality World".

The recent "Ismea Qualivita" report on foods also revealed that the economy of PDOs, the Protected Designation of Origin, has reached the value of 20 billion euros for the first time in Italy, with an increase of 6, 4 percent, and in Sardinia it reached 572 million euros, with a notable growth of 18.8 percent.
