Crossed off the list.
The public, called to vote for the original song of the year at the Victoires de la Musique 2024, was surprised to no longer see the title
German Bolide
by rapper SDM previously named in the category, BFM tells us
.
The cause of the withdrawal?
The artist's refusal to perform on stage during the ceremony scheduled for February 9, live from the Seine Musicale, the organizers confirmed with our colleagues at BFM.
The incident recalls the tense links between the demonstration and the rapper, who in 2023 advocated on Instagram the boycott of the ceremony claiming
"a lack of respect"
towards
"the artists of the rap planet"
after the coronation of Pierre de Maere in the male revelation of the year category against singer Tiakola.

The under-representation of R&B and rap at the Victories in the major awards, genres that have nevertheless been dominant in record sales and listening on Spotify for years, is regularly singled out.
Already, in 2018, the singer of the group Indochine, Nicola Sirkis described the Victoires de la Musique as a
“masquerade”
.
First criticized for its lack of parity between male and female artists, then for the striking absence of urban music in the premier categories, in recent years, the ceremony has
“only
disappointed people”
, says Vincent Frèrebeau, president of the event.
Renewal
To counter this lack of recognition, the rap world created, in 2023, its own ceremony, Les Flammes
,
the 2nd edition of which will take place on April 25.
The previous edition crowned Aya Nakamura and Gazo respectively female and male artist of the year and was marked by the domination of Tiakola and Josman, who each won three awards.
Nevertheless, this 39th edition is intended to be one of renewal: “
I want to put an end to self-denial and Parisianism
,” Vincent Frèrebeau declared to
France Info at the beginning of January
.
With the objective that
“the Victoires regain legitimacy and give a more faithful vision of French creativity”
he explained to Le
Parisien
.
