Several Chinese shipping companies have redeployed their ships to service the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, in what analysts have said is an attempt to exploit China's perceived immunity from Houthi attacks which, by driving most other operators out of the area for ties with Israel, said they acted in support of Palestinians in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas war.
These smaller Chinese lines, writes the Financial Times, "serve ports such as Doraleh in Djibouti, Hodeidah in Yemen and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, all of which have faced large drops in traffic."
