Deliberate sound: Sharon Kantor releases "What is behind the sky?", an album for young people with original stories and songs alongside live harp playing • "The sound of the harp attracts children"

With the outbreak of the war, "What is behind the sky?", a children's album by Sharon Kantor and the harpist Adia Godlavsky, appeared on his "Bandcamp" page, all of the proceeds from which were donated to the evacuation centers.

Now, the album adapted for young children, with original stories and songs alongside live harp playing, is available for listening and purchase on other platforms, accompanied by a musical performance by the two in libraries, gardens and private settings.

"It actually all started when the beloved bookstore 'The Lighthouse', where I used to do many story hours, invited me and Adia to do a reading of 'Shivia and Shikoya fly to the desert,'" says Cantor - a musician, radio broadcaster and critic.

"We met there, and we flowed into the spontaneous collaboration. Something about the harp and the qualities of its sound suited this story very well, which deals with the journey of two Kutch fairies. We saw that it was good, and we actually started working on a format that may not be very usual, in which I tell my stories And Adia accompanies them with music."

It's a very different album from the other children's albums that come out today.

"The attempt was to produce something subtle and a little different. It still has jokes and things that characterize my writing, but also a lot of subtlety. 'Shivia and Shikoya fly to the desert' was published as a book in a home press, a lovely private publishing house, and the rest of the stories are to be published later. The pace of publishing my books is not Matches the pace of writing," she laughs, "for almost two years now, I have been presenting the radio show 'Three Who Know' at Han Tarvut, I get up early in the morning and write, so there is a lot of material."

Like everything these days, I guess releasing a children's album takes on a new meaning.

"True. In the last year we recorded, mixed and worked on it, and it was nice and optimistic. On October 7, I went into shock like everyone else, and within a week, at the height of the volunteer period that gripped the whole country, I told Adiya that it was true that we had planned to release the album with a festive and orderly launch, but that I I want to put it on 'Bandcamp', and we donated all the proceeds to families from Otaf and children.

"The money collected was donated, and now we are officially releasing it on all platforms. Obviously we do it without joy, but I think all periods are good for telling stories to children - and in difficult times it is especially good, to rescue them and us. The thing I like most To do is to read stories to children. It's good for children and adults. The little children still have time for the 'harbo darbo' of life, let's start with a bit of villainy and lullabies."

Speaking of "Harbo Darbo", you are addressing a generation that grew up with screens in hand.

It is not easy.

"That's true, but this week we also started performing with the album, and we see the reactions. When you tell a story to a child, even if the child is on the phone, you can see how much he relaxes and his eyes roll, his soul is ready to be rocked in this situation, and the sound of the harp attracts children."

What about your music for adults?

Did you perform again?

"I went back to playing with my trio of guitars. I never made clapping and happy music, and now I feel much more the connection that was created to the general mourning of everyone."
