"Dear Santi, I wholeheartedly congratulate you on your re-election as president of Vox for the next 4 years."
It is the debut of the video message from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, broadcast to the extraordinary national assembly of Vox, which proclaimed Santiago Abascal as leader until 2028.
Speaking in Spanish, Meloni highlighted that the congress "is important for the relaunch of Vox in view of the next European elections", an "important" appointment for which "we must be prepared" for "the change of direction that Europe has been waiting for time".
"Long live Santiago, long live freedom, long live Vox", concluded the Prime Minister.
"The challenges that await us require your firm and solid leadership, strength, courage, political passion", reported Giorgia Meloni in the video message to the Vox assembly.
The Prime Minister said she was "sure" that Abascal's re-election "will be an important moment to relaunch Vox in view of the next European elections, a very important event which will have to find us prepared to finally give the EU the change of direction we have been waiting for time".
Fratelli d'Italia with Vox is part of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ERC) group which according to polls will grow in the elections on 9 June and could gain a hundred MEPs, establishing itself as the third force in the European Chamber.
