"Italy's objective is to work for de-escalation and peace. My visit to Lebanon, Israel and the West Bank was aimed at trying to contribute to a positive solution. Without prejudice to the fact that there is an ongoing war, therefore it is not that easy, but we must never give up": this was said by the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, interviewed on Radio 24.
"If you believe in peace you must work for peace - he continued -. A peace that is just, a peace that guarantees the security of the State of Israel and that gives hope to the Palestinian people of having an independent state recognized by all in the future. But naturally the Palestinian state must recognize Israel, because otherwise, without this prerequisite, it is difficult to proceed. I heard words of great availability by the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Abu Mazen: he asked for the unconditional release of the Israeli hostages. This is a very important signal, i.e. the exact opposite of what Hamas says.
The Palestinian National Authority is an alternative to Hamas", underlined Tajani.
