Flat calm (and modest earnings) at the box office in the USA and Canada.

For the third weekend in a row, the ranking of the most watched films at the cinema features the same titles, but with an exchange between the first and second place.

In fact, the action thriller directed by DavidAyer, The Beekeeper, reaches the top with a gross of 7.4 million dollars.

It is the story of Adam Clay (Jason Statham), an official beekeeper by profession, but, in reality, a secret service agent with extraordinary physical skills and some unfinished business with the past.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed in Italy by LeoneFilm Group and 01 Distribution, the film has earned 42.3 million domestically and almost 62 million worldwide since it was released in theaters on January 12th.

The Mean Girls of North Shore High School in Evanston, Illinois, narrowly slips into second place: Mean Girls grosses another 7.3 million, which adds to a total domestic haul of almost 61 million dollars.

It is a more than satisfactory result for Paramount, which invested 36 million dollars in the remake of the 2004 classic (written at the time by Tina Fey) and decided to bring it to theaters, rather than immediately streaming it on its own platform.

Signed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Pérez Jr. and distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures, the musical follows the original with the candid and genuine protagonist Cady Heron (Angourie Rice takes over the role from Lindsay Lohan) who ventures into the terrifying jungle of high school (Renee Rappincarna the antagonist Regina George).

In third place among the most viewed is a film released seven weeks ago: Wonka, the fantasy musical starring Timothée Chalamet as the eccentric chocolatier invented by Roald Dahl, with 5.9 million dollars earned.

The Warner Bros. film has so far earned $195 million in North America and $552 million worldwide.

The limited loot at the ticket offices in this fourth weekend of 2024 is the result of the double strike that paralyzed Hollywood until November 2023 and which postponed major releases to give studios the opportunity to promote them with celebrities on the red carpet.
