Along with crepes, the French chocolate tart is a classic of French patisserie.

It's easy to prepare, but still incredibly tasty.

The secret lies in the creamy consistency of the dough, which is created by combining dark chocolate and butter.

It also uses almost no flour, which gives the cake a unique structure.

But chocolate can be more than just delicious, as these ten fun facts clearly show.

A creamy French-style chocolate tart works like this:

For the French chocolate tart you only need five ingredients:

  • 200g butter

  • 200 g dark chocolate

  • 4 eggs, separated

  • 200g sugar

  • 2 tablespoons flour (alternatively cornstarch or ground almonds)

  • Cocoa for dusting (optional)

Preparing the juicy chocolate cake is easy:

  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C fan oven.

Grease a springform pan or tart pan (diameter 26 centimeters) and dust with cocoa powder.

  • Break the chocolate into pieces and let it melt evenly together with the butter over a hot water bath while stirring.

Then let it cool to room temperature.

  • Separate eggs.

Beat the egg whites into stiff peaks.

  • Beat the egg yolks and sugar in a mixing bowl with the whisk of a hand mixer until foamy.

Stir in the chocolate butter mixture.

    Sift the flour over it.

Carefully fold in the egg whites and mix everything into a smooth dough.

  • Pour the dough into the prepared tart pan and smooth it out.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes.

  • Remove the tart from the oven, let it cool completely and dust with cocoa powder if desired.

    Zack – done!
