The day after the Paris summit between Qatar, Egypt and the United States, Hamas dampens expectations for a lasting truce in Gaza.
“The success of the Paris meeting depends on Israel agreeing to end global aggression on the Gaza Strip,” Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official, said, as reported by Al Jazeera.
The group also says that a full release of the hostages also requires Israel to release all of the thousands of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
Negotiators from Israel, the United States, Egypt and Qatar agreed in Paris on a framework for a new hostage deal and a draft will be presented to Hamas today.
A source close to the talks told NBC News.
The deal would involve the release of the remaining American and Israeli hostages in stages, starting with women and children, accompanied by gradual pauses in fighting and the delivery of aid to Gaza, along with the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, the source said.
The framework discussed, on which the parties have reached general agreements, provides for a 30-day pause which would lead to the release of the women, children and elderly people held hostage.
During this phase, discussions about a second 30-day phase – which would include Israeli soldiers and male civilian hostages – would follow.

Meanwhile, the anti-rocket warning sirens from Gaza rang out, for the first time this year, in Tel Aviv and in the central area of Israel, forcing the population to run into shelters.
ANSA found this on the spot.
Some explosions were heard in the air, probably due to the interception of the rockets by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system.
Ten rockets were launched towards Tel Aviv and the central area of Israel.
Military Radio said this, specifying that the launch took place from the south-west area of Khan Yunis, in the south of the Strip where the fighting between the Israeli army and Hamas militiamen is most intense.
