From 1 January 2025, Italy will have the National Guarantor for the Rights of People with Disabilities.
This was decided by the Council of Ministers, which approved the draft legislative decree proposed by the Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli for examination by the Council of Ministers.
It will have "autonomous organizational powers, with administrative independence and without constraints of hierarchical subordination".
The Guarantor will be a collegial body composed of the president and two members chosen from among people with "proven professionalism, skills or experience in the field of protection and promotion of human rights and in the fight against forms of discrimination against people with disabilities".
The staff, with effect from no earlier than 1 January 2026, will be made up of two managers and twenty non-managerial staff units. The hiring of staff will take place through a public competition.
By 30 September of each year, the Guarantor will make a report to the Chambers and to the President of the Council of Ministers on the activity carried out
