Within the architectural firm Valode et Pistre, Renaud Noret is participating in the construction project of the Triangle tower, which will be erected at the Paris Exhibition Center (15th century).

In addition to this major project, he is leading the construction of numerous buildings where the environmental theme has become a priority.

Has climate change changed the way you design buildings?

RENAUD NORET.

No architectural project is done without thinking about the issues of global warming and therefore without a specialist environmental design office.

The objective is both to respond, for the users of the building, to the effects of heat waves, but also to reduce the energy consumption of the building and to think about innovative construction methods that emit less greenhouse gases. tight.

This is a priority for project owners.

How does this translate for each new project?

We must comply with regulations which require us not to exceed certain levels of CO2 emissions or to use reused materials from demolition sites.

For our projects, we recover false floors, faucet systems, earth, lighting which would previously have gone to the landfill.

“The objective is to respond to the effects of heat waves,” emphasizes Renaud Noret, architect.

But also to reduce the energy consumption of buildings.

How can we make our buildings consume less energy?

We have just completed the administrative city of Lille (North), where we installed 2,700 m2 of photovoltaic panels on the roof.

They will cover 30% of the building's electricity needs.

For the new city center district of Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine), we coupled the installation of 3,000 m2 of panels with four 30 m deep wells which contribute to the heating and cooling of the buildings using a geothermal system.

What about the fight against heatwaves inside premises?

We are working on the orientation of buildings to take advantage of the differences in sunlight to the north and south.

It is possible to design sunshade systems which reduce the need for air conditioning, balconies with slab overhangs which create shade.

In addition to green roofs, we encourage the planting of trees and plants between buildings to create islands of coolness.

And on certain projects, we collect rainwater which we store in a retention basin in the basement to then reuse it for watering purposes and for flushing toilets.

Many architects say that the era of all-concrete has passed…

Even though there are now low-carbon concretes that mix traditional cement with clay and mineral residues, over the past ten years we have seen an increase in wooden frame construction.

We are also using more and more facade insulation based on biosourced materials such as hemp or recycled denim fibers!

Some buildings are now designed in rammed earth, using raw earth bricks which have excellent insulation qualities and require much less ventilation inside.

We also sometimes use algae-based paints to avoid chemical solvents.
