"Italy will appeal to the European Court of Justice against the Control Regulation".
This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, at the technical table with the world of fishing, to discuss new strategies and prospects for the sustainable development of the sector.
The Regulation had obtained the definitive green light from the Council last November, which Italy had voted against.
In fact, it updates around 70% of the existing rules on the control of fishing vessels, modernizing them and introducing new rules to fight against overfishing.
Among the main changes introduced are the fishing vessel control systems (VMS) and the electronic recording of catches.
Essentially, all fishing vessels will be tracked via a device and all catches will have to be recorded electronically.
