Highlights: Italy will appeal to the European Court of Justice against the Control Regulation. The Regulation had obtained the definitive green light from the Council last November, which Italy had voted against. Among the main changes introduced are the fishing vessel control systems (VMS) and the electronic recording of catches. Essentially, all fishing vessels will be tracked via a device and all catches will have to be recorded electronically. The regulation updates around 70% of the existing rules on the control of fishing vessels. It also introduces new rules to fight against overfishing.
