"I beg that that little bit of humanity can be found that allows us to create the conditions for a diplomatic solution, in search of a just and lasting peace".
The Pope said this at the Angelus, recalling the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine.
"Yesterday, February 24, we remembered with pain the second anniversary of the beginning of the large-scale war in Ukraine.
How many victims, wounded, destruction, anguish, tears, in a period that is becoming terribly long and of which the end is not yet in sight", he said the Pope, adding: "It is a war that is not only devastating that region of Europe but which is unleashing a global wave of fear and hatred".
The Pope renewed his "deepest affection for the tormented Ukrainian people" and assured him of his prayers "for everyone, in particular the numerous innocent victims".
Finally he asked for a diplomatic solution "for a just and lasting peace".
