Reddit users were recently amused online by an unusual regulation for cyclists.
A traffic sign apparently allows a special exception - but with what consequences?
Munich – There are over 400 different traffic signs in Germany.
Hardly any road user knows them all, but most of the signs make it easy to understand what they mean.
Others, however, are less self-explanatory: On the Reddit platform, a user recently shared a picture of a strange traffic sign that sparked discussion.
Reddit user shares discovery from Germany: What is allowed for cyclists here?
The photo shows a rural area: a field path winds along a meadow in front of a forest.
There is a sign there that says: Dogs are not allowed to use the grass as a toilet.
So far, so clear.
What was more likely to cause confusion was the addition below: “Except for cyclists.” The conclusion was apparently quickly clear to some Reddit users: In contrast to dogs, cyclists are allowed to do their business on this meadow.
“As a cyclist, this gives me peace of mind,” says one user.
The rule also applies to cycling dogs, according to the ironic statement of another.
This must be the swarm intelligence that everyone is talking about: In a further discussion under the post, the Reddit users also clarified the “legal details”.
Someone asked under the post what would happen if he rode to the meadow with his dog in a cargo bike.
The ban would only be lifted “if your dog comes by bike,” was the prompt answer in the comments.
Then the animal itself is a cyclist and is therefore exempt from the ban.
“Everything has to be in order!” the explanation continued.
Reddit find: No official traffic sign in Germany
A look at the ADAC automobile club's traffic sign catalog reveals: The image shared on Reddit is not an official sign in Germany.
Why it was still on the meadow could be summarized with another comment: “Every sign has its story,” it said under the post.
But image editing is also not excluded.
In any case, the confusion surrounding the Reddit find was not an isolated case: many other traffic signs have also puzzled viewers.
