It is a thunderbolt in the Europe Ecology-The Greens campaign for municipalities. The party has decided to give its support to Clothilde Ollier, their candidate invested in Montpellier, confirms this Sunday the national secretary Julien Bayou, confirming information from Midi Libre.
"The head of the list had turned his back on all commitments vis-à-vis the collective, including on flagship environmental proposals", he justifies himself, referring to the "broken trust" between Clothilde Ollier and his party.
In a series of tweets, Julien Bayou wanted to develop the reasons why the environmental candidate, according to him, was divested. "There were almost no more environmental candidates on the list," he continues. He claims that a mediation mission had been launched by the executive office, without result.
The requests were not huge: share the campaign leadership with environmentalists, put candidates and environmental proposals forward. Even that was not accepted. The unanimous decision is therefore to withdraw EELV's support for Clothilde Ollier.
- Julien Bayou (@julienbayou) January 19, 2020Clothilde Ollier is, according to polls, well placed to win the Languedoc metropolis at the municipal elections in March. According to Midi Libre , the candidate moved away from the Greens of Montpellier because of her rapprochement with "the Confluence movement composed of many rebellious people".
A local assembly of local ecologists must take place on February 3 “to dismiss” the candidate. From then on, he promises, "in any event, we will have an ecological list in Montpellier".

And to leave the door ajar: "Clothilde Ollier can always come back, but she has to accept that wearing ecological colors means wearing the proposals." However, in the eyes of Julien Bayou, “an individual ambition cannot overcome the collective. And even less today than yesterday, we cannot support candidates who would discredit us. It also means that voters do not want to win elections at any cost. It is an essential message on ethics and respect for the collective. "
