"We are in the midst of the biggest tragedy our country has seen since World War II. The deaths of so many civilians is a heartbreaking pain that befalls us every day," Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said.
"Italy's engine will slow down, but will not shut down. These are difficult steps, but we have no alternative now. The government will intervene and use tremendous measures to allow us all to raise our heads in the future," the Italian prime minister pledged. The new measures mean millions of unemployed nationwide, which is already in closure and economic strangulation.
At the same time, state authorities are trying to enforce the new closure and guidelines as much as possible and prevent people from leaving homes, hoping that these measures can stop the epidemic and slowly reduce the number of people infected.
