Is the United States preparing for disaster? A study released this week at Imperial College London, one of the world's most important research institutes, warns of a steep rise in the number of dead in the US if the state does not take extreme steps to stop the spread of the plague.

According to the study, the virus could lead to the deaths of about 2.2 million American citizens in the coming months. The main concern in the United States is that due to the state's slow response, and problems with the test kits used in February meant that at this stage there is no real ability to know how many patients there are in the US, and the pandemic spread cannot be controlled.

"If you don't know where the disease is at the beginning of the outbreak, you have no chance of controlling it," explained Nid Adilia, a disease specialist at Boston University's School of Medicine for the Atlantic. "Even today the amount of testing is due to our Achilles, which is hurting every step of our response," she added.

The Senate argues, the Jewish Federation is helping the New York community

But despite the crisis, Washington is unable to overcome the political controversy, and the U.S. aid law - which should allow the United States to deal with the virus with more extreme measures - has fallen in the Senate due to disagreements between the two parties.

The Democratic Party has for a second time blocked the passage of a Senate bill that should have injected $ 2 trillion into the U.S. Calcutta, because they say the law is helping disproportionately large businesses, while Republicans point to wide-ranging aid to the economy as a whole - and warn of much damage to the economy caused by the delay.

Those who do not delay in providing aid are the New York Jewish Federation (UJA) will allocate $ 23 million in emergency aid to the New York community in response to the Corona epidemic.

The financial aid will be directed, among other things, to the provision of food for Passover, and to deliveries of ready-for-dinner meals to be distributed to New York Jews isolated or recently extradited as a result of the plague.

The New York Jewish Federation (UJA) today decided to allocate more than $ 23 million in financial assistance to meet the growing needs of New Yorkers affected by the Corona virus (covid-19). The grants and loans are intended to provide initial relief to New Yorkers facing food shortages, and to provide financial assistance to nonprofits and organizations that provide essential health and welfare services.

"This first round of grants is a critical part of the Federation's extensive effort to support New Yorkers in need of assistance as a result of the severe crisis we are experiencing. We thank all of our front-line partner organizations and work continuously, even in times of crisis, to sustain our community. "Said Eric Goldstein, executive director of the New York Jewish Federation (UJA).

The financial aid will be directed, among other things, to the provision of food for the Passover for some 180,000 people in need in the New York Jewish community. At the same time, ready-to-eat Sunday deliveries will be delivered to New York Jews who have been isolated or quarantined as a result of the Corona epidemic.

The aid also includes the establishment of a special $ 20 million loan fund that will offer zero-interest loans to Jewish Federation affiliates and small businesses. This loan fund is designed to stabilize the financial condition of nonprofit organizations that provide essential health and welfare services to millions of New Yorkers.
