indicate

poor results for the CDU.

In Baden-Württemberg, the union involved in the government is heading for a debacle.

winners of the first

state elections of

the year

.

Both under Winfried Kretschmann in

Baden-Württemberg

and under Anne Spiegel in

Rhineland-Palatinate

, the party is doing very well in the latest polls.

The Greens * are stable over 30 percent in the polls before the state elections in Baden-Württemberg *.

The CDU * with top candidate Susanne Eisenmann * collapses and, according to recent surveys, could even undercut its historically weakest result (27 percent in 2016).

to ten to twelve percent

in the polls before the

State election in Rhineland-Palatinate: SPD and CDU head to head, Dreyer with an advantage

In

Rhineland-Palatinate

, a traffic light coalition * consisting of the SPD *, FDP * and the Greens * under Prime Minister Malu Dreyer * (SPD) governs.

This coalition is doing well in the polls ahead of the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate *: It can defend its majority in all polls.

The situation is different in the fight for the strongest force in the

state parliament in Mainz

: Here the SPD with top candidate Malu Dreyer and the CDU * with top candidate Christian Baldauf * are in a neck-and-neck race.

Depending on the survey institute, the SPD is sometimes one to several percentage points in the lead, an opinion research institute sees the two popular parties at 30 percent each.

However, the advantage is likely to lie with the SPD: Malu Dreyer has the bonus of the rulers, at the same time the CDU in

Rhineland-Palatinate

as in

Baden-Württemberg has

to fight with the mask affair *

The

state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg

are taking place amid the corona pandemic *, which should mean that numerous people in both federal states will vote by postal vote *.

Rhineland-Palatinate

is even prepared to hold the state election as a purely postal vote * - however, state returning officer Marcel Hürter sees major hurdles and assumes that those

eligible to vote

can visit

the

polling stations

.

There should be special hygiene concepts to protect voters and election workers from corona infection.

The polling stations are open for the

state elections in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate

from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Shortly after the polls have closed, the first forecasts * for both elections should be published.

These are based on exit polls, i.e. anonymous surveys of people who have left the polling station.

First projections * from

Baden-Württemberg

and

Rhineland-Palatinate

should follow around 6.30 p.m.

These numbers are already based on counted ballot papers.

In the course of the evening there will be several

projections

until the

preliminary official final results

are

presumably

published

late in the evening

.

State elections in BaWü and RLP: preliminary official final results in the late evening

In the last

state election in Baden-Württemberg

, the provisional official final result was announced around 10.30 p.m., in

Rhineland-Palatinate

it was fixed around 10.40 p.m.

It

is difficult to predict

whether the

results of the 2021 state elections will be determined

at similar times, as numerous postal votes and corona hygiene measures could slow down the counts.

However, one thing is already certain: the

official final results of the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg

will only be announced several days after the state elections.

In

Baden-Württemberg it

took

around three weeks

after the

state elections in 2016

,

and

eleven days

in

Rhineland-Palatinate

.
