Petershausen - "With the extermination of species, there is nothing left to live on," said Greens councilor Susanne Strauss last Saturday morning at a demonstration by the Petershauser Greens on the international day of biodiversity. Petershausen - "With the extermination of species, there is nothing left to live on," said Greens councilor Susanne Strauss last Saturday morning at a demonstration by the Petershauser Greens on the international day of biodiversity. A dozen or so participants had come to Pertrichplatz in response to the last-minute appeal, using banners and signs to draw attention to the importance of biodiversity.

In Petershausen there are already some associations and organizations that are committed to biodiversity, Strauss emphasized.

A poster listed different actors, from the horticultural association to the active school to the nature conservation association.

"But there is still room for improvement." Politicians must also focus more closely on this goal, demanded Alexander Heisler, district spokesman for the Greens and also for the Greens in the Petershauser municipal council.

The aim is to align the agricultural landscape even more closely with ecological standards, with places of refuge and sources of food for insects and other animals.

Heisler also wants trees to be more protected.

In Dachau, as one of the districts with the least forest in Bavaria, there is still a lot to do, for example, reforesting more deciduous trees.

Evi Woitke, biologist and learning guide at the Active School, brought her extensive bean collection with her to draw attention to the diversity of plants. “The bean grows all over the world,” said Woitke, who is passionate about the active preservation of lesser-known varieties. Quite a laborious hobby. She owns 50 varieties, more are added every year, and every two years each variety has to be planted and re-cultivated. "But I want to preserve this diversity."

In addition to private initiatives and committed associations, the community can also become even more active, explains Green Councilor Strauss in an interview on the sidelines of the demo. There are already flowering meadows, "we want to find more areas there". And whether a tree protection ordinance in Petershausen would make sense, Strauss said, one could think about it. "But everyone can also contribute something," emphasized Heisler. For gardens, for example, the motto should apply: "the wilder, the better".
