Gelting - There has been an important contact point in the district since 1986 for people who are no longer able to cope with their current life situation due to a psychological problem or illness. The Social Psychiatric Service of Caritas not only helps them, but also advises relatives, friends and colleagues. At the celebration of the 35th anniversary in the ambush, third district administrator Klaus Koch paid tribute to the services of the facility.

"We are all in the same boat," said Koch.

The Beuerberger recalled the UN Convention on the Participation of Disabled People and the principle of subsidiarity fulfilled by Caritas.

“It means that the state withdraws from regulatory interventions if the tasks can be carried out by another group.” These principles are essential for the functioning of a democracy.

Those affected report about their lives with relentless openness

Caritas district manager Wolfgang Schweiger thanked the supervisors of the social psychiatric service for their tireless efforts.

Then Iris Maurus, a graduate social worker, gave those affected the chance to have their say.

Elke Blessing and Matthias Krohn wrote down their experiences in autobiographical books and presented excerpts from the text.

In relentless openness, Krohn reported on conflicts with the police, alcohol addiction, temporary admission to the Agatharied hospital and his episodes of depression. The 49-year-old Geretsrieder wanted to "encourage people to deal with this disease".

Elke Blessing also pursues this approach.

The 54-year-old has been in therapeutic treatment for 28 years and sang the Bob Dylan classic "Knockin 'On Heaven's Door" at the gala evening.

Thanks to music and songs she wrote herself, 23-year-old Sam Winter also found her way out of the crisis.

After she sang the optimistic sentence “Today will be a beautiful day” at the end of the live stream recording of the festive evening, a buffet and pizza prepared by the helpers contributed to the culinary well-being of the guests.

“That was a wonderful evening,” said Gabriele Skarda.

The chairman of the Friends of the Mentally Ill had organized "mental health" evenings in ambush in recent years.
