Prime Minister Naftali Bennett decided today (Wednesday) to appoint Brigadier General (Res.) Moshe Edri as chairman of the Atomic Energy Committee.

Edri (59), who has a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern and African Studies from the University of Haifa and a master's degree in public policy from Bar Ilan University, currently serves as the Superintendent of Special Means and the Defense Ministry.

In his role as Defense Commissioner, he has in recent months coordinated and led the treatment of the corona plague at the national level, and integrates the activities of professionals in various aspects, including concentrating efforts and operational processes on economic activities, budget issues, procurement, implementation of policy guidelines and more.

Throughout his 31 years of service in the IDF, Brigadier General (Res.) Edri has held a number of senior positions, including Commander of the 669th Airborne Rescue and Evacuation Unit, Commander of the Special Forces in the Air Force (669 and SLDG units), Air Force Base Commander and Brigade Head The special measures at the General Staff.

Upon his release from the IDF in 2011 with the rank of brigadier general, he served for about three and a half years as head of the Atomic Energy Commission and since 2015 he has held his current positions in the Ministry of Defense.

In view of his many years of experience, performance and in-depth understanding of the security and regional challenges facing the State of Israel, Prime Minister Bennett decided to appoint him to the position of Chairman of the Atomic Energy Committee.

The appointment will take effect in July 2022, following the completion of an overlap procedure, approval of the appointments committee in the State Service Commission and approval by the government.

Brigadier General (Res.) Edri will replace the current chairman of the committee, Zeev Snir, who has been in office since 2015 and will end his term in June.

"Moshe Edri is the right person at the right time," the prime minister said.

"His impressive performance, his deep understanding and his willingness to take on any task at the national level, left a deep impression on me even in my role as Defense Minister. I wish Moshe great success, I have no doubt that he will meet the challenges and great tasks that regional reality invites."
