Will Smith's Boxing: The Real Cause Of The Violent Event At The Oscars Israel today

Chris Rock's joke at the expense of Jada Pinkett, Smith's wife, hit a sensitive point - as she's been dealing with a serious illness that has caused her baldness for years.

In one punch, Will Smith managed to ruin for himself last night (Sunday) the Oscar win she had been waiting for and expecting for years, when he took the stage, cursed and beat comedian Chris Rock after he joked about his wife Jida Pinkett's baldness.

Smith and Pinkett's outrage at Rock's insensitive remark was not created in a vacuum, as she touched on a very sensitive point in Pinkett (50).

Pinkett has been battling alopecia areata for years, which she first revealed in 2018 on her talk show show Red Talk Table, in a conversation she had with her daughter Willow and her mother Adrian Benfield Norris.

"I was shaking with fear," she said of the moment of discovery in the shower when she began to shed large amounts of hair, and shared that was then the decision she made to cut her hair and start tying scarves to her head.

"At this point I can only laugh about it," Pinkett shared her 11.2 million followers in an Instagram video she uploaded several months ago, running her finger over her baldness.

"You all know I struggled with baldness, and suddenly one day it showed up," she said.

Since revealing the disease, Pinkett has openly and courageously shared with her followers videos and posts about her coping, while sometimes using black humor as well.

"Mom will have to take it all off so they do not think she has brain surgery. Me and my alopecia are going to be friends, period," she declared.

Alopecia areata is defined as an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system "attacks" the hair follicles.

It usually erupts from a combination of genetic background and mental triggers such as persistent mental stress or trauma, and is manifested in alopecia in the scalp and other areas of the body.
