Opinion | The distorted approach of the Israel Police - to adopt the Arab version instead Israel today

2022-04-10T13:34:02.920Z

Amichai Ben Saadoun's viral post and the weapons taken from the man who thwarted the terrorist in Be'er Sheva caused a stir around the issue of taking the weapons •

Amichai Ben Saadoun is not alone.

There are thousands of people like him in Israel.

They were attacked, usually by Arabs, and as permitted by law and morality, tried to defend themselves with weapons that the State of Israel authorized their use for precisely such purposes.

As Prime Minister Bennett said a few days ago: "Anyone who has a gun license, it's time to carry it."

But while the political echelon encourages citizens to protect their lives, the bureaucratic echelon, led by the Israel Police, does the opposite.

They systematically punish the assailants, and consistently back up the assailants.

Hard to believe, but this is the distorted approach.

I personally know of dozens of cases in which Jews who were attacked, placed in detention and their weapons were taken from them for extended periods.

why?

Because when both sides complained, the police chose to adopt the Arab version instead.

Just as the law enforcement system automatically believes in a battered woman and not a battered man, so it will prefer the attacking Arab version over the attacked Jew.

This policy is being pursued because progressive jurists have deeply penetrated the notion that sees every Arab as a so-called weakened minority.

The Jew, according to them, is a member of the oppressive majority, and therefore his version must be questioned and a deterrent policy must be taken towards him first.

The fact that the opposite is true, that the Jew was mostly attacked and the Arab was aggressive, that the Jew legally possessed a weapon while the Arab, carried it without a license, disappears from the eyes of the authorities.

This outrageous method has been going on for years.

The public was exposed to it only after the boycott of the terrorist's assassin from Be'er Sheva was confiscated, so the commissioner, under pressure from the media, was forced to order the return of the gun on the same day.

But that directive was the exception.

The usual procedure is to confiscate the legal weapon from the attacked Jew, and it does not matter that he leaves a patrol, serves in the reserve or is just a good citizen with no criminal record.

Ask the residents of Lod, who were attacked during the "Guardian of the Walls".

The legal weapons of the assailants were taken from them for many months.

The illegal weapons of the attackers, still scattered in the city.

So declarations of an "uncompromising war on terror" will not help without practical expression on the ground.

If the cabinet is really interested in stopping the wave of terrorism, this is the first directive it must give to the Minister of Internal Security, Amar Bar-Lev, at today's meeting: complete abolition of arms confiscations from attacked civilians, including stopping the ridiculous excuse as a ballistic examination.

In the spirit of the words of our sages, basic justice is to export a hired force.
