Opinion | If there is no bread - order a volt | Israel today

Ayala Hasson's exposure of the Bennett family's excessive extravagance is a supersonic boom for anyone who hoped we would no longer have to deal with the exact weight of pistachio ice cream or the estimated value of five-course meals.

The prying preoccupation with the families of elected officials is almost always yellow, low, abusive and most of all an injustice to those who still pay a considerable price for the publicity of a father or mother of the family.

I did not want to write this column, I really did not want to.

No one wants to engage in the spaghetti of those who have been treated to it because of a spaghetti tank top.

Whoever puts himself in the line of fire may be his problem, but many family members prefer to stay out of the hot kitchen of Israeli politics.

Wait, did we say kitchen?

Because Ayala Hasson's exposure to the Bennett family's excessive extravagance is a supersonic boom for anyone who hoped we would no longer have to deal with the exact weight of pistachio ice cream or the estimated value of five ounces.

There were days when the media dealt day and night with the composition of the non-kosher dish served by chef Gilat Bennett, and only last week did Man Dahu recite her standing "as one man, without manners" in line for a buffet at one of the country's hotels.

And here, it turns out that even the prime minister of change did not bring with him a real change in the news coming out of the prime minister's house.

With all due respect to Mrs. Bennett's privacy, independence and right to a spotless life, fast food for thousands of shekels at the expense of taxpayers is a very bad sign of someone who has forgotten that a public servant is someone who works for the public, not someone the public works for.

The Bennett family's official response is nothing short of shameful, concluding with the claim "Netanyahu spent more."

Netanyahu's fondness for luxury has been the subject of some of the most expensive and well-publicized we have seen in recent years, while Bennett and his friends still insist that they are a change government.

Or maybe it was a fusion?

Election promises, remember.

Speaking of comparisons to Netanyahu, while Ayala Hasson does her journalistic role here and reveals a puzzling use of public funds, other Israeli journalists prefer a fruit that does not actually come in Volt: etrog.

Leadership is urgently needed here to bring back reasonable standards in this area, and perhaps a loyal adviser who will explain to the prime minister that huge amounts of takeaway on a regular basis are disconnecting and enjoying themselves.

This really simple idea - that Israeli citizens pay taxes to improve their own lives, not to improve the personal lives of this or that elected official - for some reason was even missed by the brother from the patrol.

Along with the favorable conditions necessary for the Prime Minister's demanding work, there is no obligation on Israeli citizens to feed their children gourmet dishes.

The dietary habits of the Bennett family are a private matter only, and in order for them to remain so - there is no justification for submitting the bill to all of us.

Anyone who behaves in a way that seems unworthy of taxpayer money should not be surprised that everyone is looking at him on a plate.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
