Geltinger: New chairman Walter Weiss is recruiting members

Gelting – 112 women, men and young people are currently active, passive or supporting members of the Gelting volunteer fire brigade.

The new commander Walter Weiss finds too little.

As reported, Weiss took over this year from Andreas Wannek, who gave up his position as first chairman after 17 years.

At the most recent annual general meeting in the event hall of the Geltinger kindergarten, Wannek, who was previously second commander from 1999 to 2005, received a standing ovation from the around 30 members who attended, as well as from Geretsried's mayor Michael Müller and the CSU city councilors Sabine Lorenz, Ewald Kailberth and Franz Wirtensohn adopted.

The new chairman, Walter Weiss, who worked in the IT industry before retiring, would like to increase the number of active members during his four-year term of office from the current 26 to 35 and the proportion of women to 20 percent.

The 61-year-old also wants to be "stubborn" when it comes to the demand for a new fire station.

"We need a replacement for the house that is unsuitable and dangerous for firefighters," demanded Weiss.

He referred to a lack of parking spaces, insufficient changing rooms and narrow passages in the building on Wolfratshauser Straße.

In addition, the old tank fire engine is to be replaced by an LF-10 vehicle.

"The delivery will probably take place in 2025 at the earliest," Weiss feared.

In 2021 there were 43 missions

The volunteer fire brigade recorded a total of 43 deployments last year.

"Annoying are the many false alarms caused by supposed fire reports in the commercial area," the commander regretted.

He was satisfied with the work of the youth group, which currently consists of two girls and seven boys.

Mayor Michael Müller thanked the firefighters for their efforts.

"It's no longer a matter of course these days," he explained.

The fact that the fire brigade equipment house has not yet been renovated or rebuilt despite years of demands is mainly due to the location of the property.

Robert Schmid, who represented the prevented district fire inspector Erich Zengerle and the district leadership, announced his support for the Geltinger comrades.

"I'm always there for you," he assured.

Wirtensohn and Nagl have been members for 50 years

At the end of the annual general meeting, Michael Prestel was elected the new treasurer.

Anton Nagl and Christoph Lempart are responsible for the cash audit.

Martin Palik received the Fire Service Medal for special merits during his 25-year membership.

Franz Wirtensohn and Georg Nagl (both 50 years members of the fire brigade) as well as Wendelin Schelle and Florian Seitz (both 30 years) were happy about certificates.

Florian Wyrwoll (20 years old) and Thomas Schwachenbach (15 years old).
